Grace Chapel’s Childrens Outreach: Week #1

I thank God for Grace Chapel. I was very encouraged Thursday night to work with around 10 of the dear brothers and sisters from Grace Chapel, not to mention my lovely fiance (who is in the process of becoming a member of GFC!). I was greatly encouraged by their willingness and their resolve to take the Gospel to the park at Lincoln Alexander Public School. A group of people had distributed around 500 fliers in the area on Wednesday. However, even though the fliers did not seem to be the draw, there just happened to be many people in the park Thursday night (which was beautiful).

After looking at 2 Corinthians 5:11-21, we did some training on how to do an evangelistic outreach in the park. Thereafter, we did some informal training in evangelism (Q & A). Then we spent some time in prayer, seeking the Lord for grace and help. And boy did the Lord ever answer prayer!

Though we did not have any kids with us, as a team, we recruited six kids who joined us at the beginning of our program. We began the night with a very fun boys versus girls game. The word puzzle read “God Keeps His Promises.” Then Daniel S. provided a magic trick (object lesson), which taught us that the Bible has the answer to the most important questions about God and life. Mark K. lead us in a highly energetic Bible song for children. It was filled with actions, volume and lots and lots of fun! I think everyone in the park was watching us (and I know they all heard us)! This surely drew a lot of attention, which was great, for thereafter I taught from the sketchboard. I preached a message called God’s  Promises Point You to Christ. By God’s grace, I was able to teach Exodus 1-3 and show how God’s promises (of a people, land, and a son) ultimately point us to Jesus Christ. The Lord gave me grace to preach the Gospel to the children in an age appropriate manner. Thereafter, Sandra gave an announcement advertising the summer sports camp that Grace Chapel is running through out July. And Sammy pulled though by delivering a prize for the best behaved boy and girl and even popsicles for all the kids!

By the end of the program there were around 8 kids on the tarp, but there were many onlookers (including many adults from the side, who listened to the entire preaching of the Gospel). Our team went to them afterwards and talked to them about this free summer kids club and about Grace Chapel and the summer sports camp. Furthermore, many of us were able (by God’s grace) to engage in one-on-one evangelism with many of the adults and youth – praise the Lord! May God’s Word spread in Markham.

The Lord truly blessed us – it was a very encouraging evening; the kids loved it and are planning to go and tell their friends to come and join us next Thursday night! Please pray for us that the Lord would continue to give us boldness and that we may be men and women of sincerity who show that we are Christians by our love and who do not shrink from preaching the Gospel. Amen.

Here is a picture of what the sketch looked like by the end of the preaching:

If you would like to find out how to recieve training on how to learn to use the sketchboard, please comment on this post and I will email you back, directing you accordingly. By the way, I do not have artistic talent; I learned how to use the sketchboard from open air evangelists in Boston – it is really not that hard.

Getting Ready to Help Grace Chapel

I was greatly encouraged to have enjoyed sweet fellowship with my brothers Habib and Raphi yesterday. We met to plan how I can best serve Grace Chapel (in Markham). Though not all the details are set, one thing we have planned is very exciting! We are going to do an open air preaching outreach for children, which is a one hour kids program.  I will preach from a large sketch board and use bright paints to help illustrate (visually) the message that I will be preaching (orally). The location is the playground (park) just north of Alexander Public School in Markham. The time is every Thursday night in July from 7-9 PM! Please come . . . and please bring some children.

If you are in the Markham area, please join us on any (or all) of these Thursday nights! Or, if you know of anyone in the area, please let them know. Or if you are interested in learning more about how to do evangelistic outreach to kids in your neighbourhood, please come and check it out. Maybe it could be a source of encouragement for you and your church. We will do a four week series called “Exploring Egypt to Sinai: 4 P’s to Point You to Christ!” May Christ be glorified as He is preached from Exodus, and may he draw many to himself. In addition, we hope to use this outreach to help inform people of the summer Bible camp for kids that Grace Chapel is running July 6-31. The camp will take place at Chinese Baptist Church in Markham.
